สถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ของกลุ่มสถาปนิกไทยรุ่นบุกเบิก พ.ศ.2459-พ.ศ.2508

Abstract

สำหรับการศึกษาเรื่องสถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ของกลุ่มสถาปนิกไทยรุ่นบุกเบิก พ.ศ. 2459- พ.ศ. 2508นี้ เกิดขึ้นมาได้เนื่องจากผู้วิจัยต้องการทราบถึงจุดเริ่มต้นของการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากสถาปัตยกรรมแบบประเพณีมาเป็นสถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ดังที่พบเห็นในปัจจุบัน โดยการศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ทราบถึงมูลเหตุ ปัจจัย แนวความคิด และอิทธิพลต่าง ๆ ที่ผลักดันให้สถาปนิกในกลุ่มสร้างงานเหล่านั้น เพื่อรวบรวมผลงานการออกแบบ ศึกษาถึงลักษณะรูปแบบ องค์ประกอบทางสถาปัตยกรรม วัสดุเทคโนโลยีในการก่อสร้าง ลักษณะเฉพาะของแต่ละท่าน และลักษณะร่วมของกลุ่ม การศึกษาครั้งนี้ผู้วิจัยตั้งใจศึกษาในแง่ความสัมพันธ์ของตัวสถาปนิกและสถาปัตยกรรมเป็นหลัก ภายใต้กรอบความคิดที่ว่าสถาปนิก สภาวการณ์ต่างประเทศ สภาวการณ์ในประเทศ และสถาปัตยกรรมเป็นสิ่งที่เชื่อมโยงกันอยู่ จากการศึกษาพบว่า สถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ที่ออกแบบโดยกลุ่มสถาปนิกไทยรุ่นบุกเบิกนี้ นับเป็นลักษณะของสถาปัตยกรรมแบบใหม่ที่เกิดขึ้นโดยสืบเนื่องมาจากปัจจัยหลากหลายปัจจัยทั้งจากตัวสถาปนิกเอง และสภาพแวดล้อมต่างๆ ทั้งในและต่างประเทศ ผลงานการออกแบบของสถาปนิกไทยรุ่นบุกเบิกทั้ง 6 ท่านนี้ มีลักษณะเฉพาะของแต่ละคน และมีลักษณะร่วมของกลุ่มโดยรวม และที่สำคัญงานสถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ที่เกิดขึ้นโดยสถาปนิกเหล่านี้นั้นนอกจากจะทำหน้าที่เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมแล้วยังมีความหมายในเชิงสังคมแฝงอยู่ด้วย อันแสดงถึงการเกิดขึ้นของความเป็นสังคมใหม่เมื่อสภาพสังคมและศูนย์กลางของประเทศแปรเปลี่ยนไป ท้ายที่สุด ผู้วิจัยมีความคิดเห็นว่า สถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ที่ออกแบบโดยกลุ่มสถาปนิกไทยรุ่นบุกเบิกนั้นเป็นชิ้นงานที่แสดงจุดเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมที่น่าสนใจ หากแต่ยังมิได้มีการมองเห็นคุณค่าจากประชาชนหรือหน่วยงานเท่าที่ควร ทำให้สถาปัตยกรรมเหล่านี้ถูกละเลยและถูกทำลายลงอย่างน่าเสียดาย หากในอนาคตมีการให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับความสำคัญของอาคารเหล่านี้ให้มากขึ้นก็น่าจะทำให้ประชาชนมองเห็นคุณค่าความสำคัญของสถาปัตยกรรมเหล่านี้ในแง่ของหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ชิ้นสำคัญของสถาปัตยกรรมสมัยใหม่ในยุคปัจจุบันได้อย่างดี

The thesis “Modern Architecture of Pioneer Thai Architects B.E. 2459 – 2508” explores the beginning of the transformation from traditional Thai architecture to today modern architecture. The aim is to study the reasons, concepts, and conditions that influenced the chosen 6 pioneer architects’ works. It is to assemble the projects, and to study the styles, architectural ornaments, materials, and construction technology. Additionally, it is to explore each architect’s architectural individuality and to find their common characters. The thesis focuses on the relationship between the architects and their architecture with an understanding that architects, global influences, local conditions, and architecture are all related. From the study, it shows that the modern architecture designed by the chosen 6 pioneer architects emerged from different factors including the architect himself, and the global and local influences. Each architect had a unique style. Simultaneously, they shared some common grounds. More importantly, not only the architecture designed by the chosen 6 pioneer architects has functioned as architecture, but they also have represented the changes in society in the modern time. Finally, the researcher suggested that the architecture designed by the chosen 6 pioneer architects represent an interesting turning point in Thai society. But they have not been studied and realized enough by Thai people and organizations. The buildings have been deplorably ignored and demolished. There is a need to acknowledge the people about the importance of the buildings, because they can tell a great history for today modern architecture.
