สุนทรียภาพแห่งใบหน้าที่ประทับใจ

Abstract

การเขียนภาพเหมือน (Portrait) เป็นสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าสนใจเป็นพิเศษ เนื่องจากการเขียนภาพเหมือนมีข้อแม้ซึ่งอาจจะเรียกได้ว่าเป็นข้อจำกัดสำคัญอยู่สองอย่าง อย่างแรกคือภาพเหมือน ควรจะต้องมีความเหมือนของแบบ นั่นหมายความว่าศิลปินต้องพัฒนาทักษะการเขียนให้สามารถสร้างงานที่คนดูหรืออย่างน้อยศิลปินเองสามารถบอกได้ว่าเป็นคน ๆ นั้น อย่างที่สอง คือคนส่วนใหญ่คุ้นเคยกับรูปแบบการเขียนภาพเหมือนที่ดูเหมือนจริงทั้งขนาดและวิธีเขียน มากกว่าในรูปแบบอื่น แต่การที่จะทำภาพเหมือนในรูปแบบอื่นต้องอาศัยความเข้าใจของทั้งผู้ที่เป็นแบบ และศิลปินที่จะต้องรู้จักคนที่จะเป็นแบบพอเพียงที่จะสามารถสรุปเอาลักษณะที่เด่นของแบบมาทำงานได้ การทำงานสร้างสรรค์ชุดนี้ จึงเกิดขึ้นเพราะข้าพเจ้าคิดว่าทั้งสองประเด็นเป็นสิ่งท้าทาย ข้าพเจ้าพยายามพัฒนาทักษะการเขียนรูป หารูปแบบและวิธีทำอย่างใหม่ ๆ โดยการศึกษาจากงานศิลปะแบบต่าง ๆ เพื่อที่จะสร้างสรรค์งานชุดนี้ ข้าพเจ้าเลือกที่จะมุ่งความสนใจไปที่ใบหน้าเพราะสำหรับคนเราใบหน้าเป็นเสมือนกับยี่ห้อ ที่จะบอกว่าเราคือเราได้มากกว่าส่วนอื่น ๆ ของร่างกาย ในการทำงานข้าพเจ้าต้องศึกษาทั้งข้อมูลจากแบบ เทคนิควิธีการทำ และรูปแบบจากหลากหลายที่มา มีการวิเคราะห์ และการอภิปรายงานทั้งโดยรวมและแต่ละชอ้นงานเพื่อความเข้าใจที่ชัดเจนขึ้นถึงเหตุผลและที่มาของการทำงาน ในบทสรุปแล้วข้าพเจ้าคิดว่าการศึกษาและการทำงานศิลปะคงจะต้องเป็นสิ่งที่กระทำอย่างต่อเนื่องไปตลอดมิใช่สิ้นสุดแค่เพียงแต่ในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ชุดนี้เท่านั้น

I am interested in portraitures especially because there are two major limitations in painting portraits. Firstly, there has to be a recognizable likeness of the sitter. That means the artist has to have a considerable skill to be able to render the likeness. Secondly, people usually have a conventional image of portraits, realistically rendered and of realistic size, in mind. This painting thesis happens because I find these two issues artistically challenging. I tried to improve my drawing and painting skill, looking for new formats and exploring new techniques by learning from many different kinds of art for the thesis. I have focused my interest only to the faces, because for most of us, the face is the symbol of who we are. I have to gather different materials and information, both about the people I paint and artistic forms and techniques, to be able to do this project. For more understanding of the works, the thesis integrates the analysis and discussion of the works as a whole and each painting separately. In conclusions I would say that the learning and making art is something that has to be a life-time process and will not end with the thesis.
