Abstract:
The research is the activities of colors and shapes perception of 2D paintings which are simplified details and colors, and expression with drawing and painting. It is qualitative research. Methodology and tools for data collections, such as interview, observation, sound recording, photography and test methods of painting including, painting with original art pictures, imagination, feeling and topics defined. The participants are the congenitally totally blind and high school. They had no the experience of pictorials, colors and shapes of paintings before. The technique and device are touch-screen and software development by using converted RGB to HLS color model, and compared colors represent by coding to sound pitches of musical note. The testing used 12 palette colors for beginner. Analyzed and interpreted by explanation and art criticism.
The result of research found that it could use sound pitches to colors representation. The participants could perceive colors and shapes of 2D paintings, they commented and criticized, and expressed with painting to present in realistic and abstract; select and use color by their liking, accuracy and painting by themselves without helpers. They had satisfaction, impression and enjoyableness as well. Conclusion, the device and software can help the congenitally blind perceived colors, painting, and learning in art education. To obtained the new knowledge and the theory of painting in color for the blind. The 4 new art theories for the blind are proposed including, Art ad Adjustment, Art as Metaphor, Art as Satisfaction, and Art as Growth that relate respectively.
