การค้นคว้าอิสระฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาและตรวจสอบสมมติฐานว่า “อาคารแบบวิลันดา” ได้รับอิทธิพลจากโบสถ์คาทอลิคขนาดเล็กที่สร้างขึ้นในสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย โดยการศึกษาพัฒนาการของอาคารแบบวิลันดาในช่วงอยุธยาตอนปลาย พัฒนาการของการสร้างอาคารแบบตะวันตกในกรุงศรีอยุธยา และเปรียบเทียบและวิเคราะห์รูปแบบทางสถาปัตยกรรม
อาคารแบบวิลันดา หมายถึงสถาปัตยกรรมไทยก่ออิฐถือปูนใช้ผนังรับน้ำหนักหลังคาและหน้าบันก่ออิฐถือปูน ตกแต่งหน้าบันด้วยปูนปั้น ลักษณะดังกล่าวแตกต่างจากสถาปัตยกรรมไทยประเพณีที่ประดับหน้าไม้ด้วยเครื่องใช้ เทคนิคการก่อสร้างอาคารแบบนี้ได้รับอิทธิพลจากสถาปัตยกรรมตะวันตกที่เข้ามาพร้อมกับการตั้งถิ่นฐานและการเผยแพร่คริสตศาสนาของชาวตะวันตก อาคารแบบวิลันดาปรากฏในกรุงศรีอยุธยาและจังหวัดใกล้เคียงและสร้างเพื่อใช้ประโยชน์แตกต่างกันตามวัตถุประสงค์รวมถึงเป็นอุโบสถหรือวิหารขนาดเล็ก มีทางเข้าด้านหน้าเพียงด้านเดียว ขนาดและรูปแบบของอุโบสถหรือวิหารมีลักษณะเดียวกับโบสถ์คาทอลิคขนาดเล็กนอกกรุงศรีอยุธยา
ผลการศึกษาสรุปได้ว่า อาคารแบบวิลันดา พัฒนาการมาจากอาคารที่ชาวฮอลันดาเข้ามาสร้างไว้ก่อนรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์ฯ ต่อมาเมื่อชาวตะวันตกเข้ามาตั้งถิ่นฐานมากขึ้นจึงมีการสร้างอาคารแบบตะวันตกเพื่อวัตถุประสงค์แตกต่างกัน และมีขนาดอาคารแตกต่างกัน อุโบสถแบบวิลันดา และโบสถ์คาทอลิคขนาดเล็กมีพัฒนาการมาจากอาคารแบบวิลันดาในสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย แต่ไม่สามารถสรุปได้ว่าอุโบสถแบบวิลันดาได้รับอิทธิพลโดยตรงจากโบสถ์คาทอลิคขนาดเล็ก
The goal of this research is to study the architecture of Wilanda and to substantiate the assumption that Wilanda Architecture was influenced by small Catholic churches from the late Ayutthaya period. This study presents the development of Wilanda Architecture in the late Ayutthaya period, the development of Western-style architecture in Ayutthaya, and the comparison between and the analysis of those architectures.
Wilanda Architecture refers to Thai brick and mortar buildings, which were constructed using walls to support the roof with brick and mortar pediments, and decorated with stucco. The style was the significant development from Thai Traditional building whereby the pediments were made of wood. This construction technique is believed to have been influenced by the Western-style architecture brought from the western settlement and Christian missionaries. Wilanda Architecture appeared in Ayutthaya and neighbouring provinces, and usually in small buildings functioned as ordination halls or “Viharas.” One of the characteristics is the entrance are on only one side of the building. The size and form is similar to that of small Catholic churches outside Ayutthaya.
The study suggests that Wilanda Architecture developed from buildings constructed by Dutch settled in Ayutthaya before the reign of King Narai the Great. Later, the buildings were developed into various sizes to the usage. Wilanda ordination hall and small Catholic churches developed from Western-style architecture, but it cannot be concluded that Wilanda ordination hall was directly influenced by small Catholic churches.
