Kanchanaburi is a province in Thailand known for its rich history and stunning natural landscape. It is situated in the western part of the country and is characterized by its mountainous terrain, lush forests, and numerous rivers. The region is particularly famous for the River Kwai, which is associated with the historical events of World War II, including the construction of the infamous Death Railway. In addition to its historical significance, Kanchanaburi offers a variety of attractions, such as pre-history museum, historical parks, and an obscure site of industrial heritage, the first fully intergraded pulp paper mill build in 1937, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.  This paper delves into the historical significance of the first fully integrated pulp paper mill established in Southeast Asia.;

Ethical Aspects of 3D Technologies in Sculpture Conservation

This thesis explores the ethical implications of applying 3D technologies in sculpture conservation. While such tools offer new possibilities for documentation, replication, and interpretive display, they also challenge conventional conservation principles, including authenticity, reversibility, and material compatibility. Through the analysis of theoretical literature, and selected case studies, the research identifies key ethical tensions emerging from the use of 3D technologies. The thesis argues that existing frameworks, though valuable, remain incomplete in addressing the long-term risks and conceptual ambiguities of digital-physical interventions. In response, a set of practical guidelines is proposed to support transparent, sustainable, and ethically responsible applications of 3D tools in conservation. Finally, the thesis highlights the need to expand traditional ethics by integrating care-based approaches that emphasise attentiveness, contextual sensitivity, and shared responsibility in digital heritage practice.; -

Cleaning of synthetic paint films presents an increasingly urgent yet often under-informed conservation challenge. This study investigates the most used and most sensitive cleaning systems in current practice, identifying regional variations and assessing the gap between research and application. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining secondary literature analysis with primary data from interviews and surveys conducted among conservators and contemporary artists.

The findings reveal that highly sensitive, research-based cleaning systems are rarely implemented in practice, and conservators often lack knowledge about the precise binding media. As these cleaning systems typically require exact material identification, their practical applicability is limited. The study also highlights the under-utilised potential of artist collaboration, suggesting that improved communication could enhance material documentation and contextual understanding.

To bridge the divide between research and practice, future conservation efforts must integrate scientific knowledge, artist insights, and accessible methods within daily workflows, supported by stronger structural and educational frameworks.; -

Conservation of a ceramic sculpture

This paper presents a conservation case study of "Textured Dog," a black-and-white striped ceramic sculpture by Thanatnoond Kumprommarat (2010). It forms part of the eight-piece ceramic dog installation, Pi Lam (หมาลาย), an outdoor artwork displayed on the premises of the Sanamchandra Art Gallery in Bangkok. The sculpture is crafted from local clay and finished with a low-firing glaze. This specific dog was found in multiple broken pieces and poor condition due to prolonged outdoor exposure, which caused extensive damage, significantly compromising its structural integrity and appearance. The primary objective of this study is to restore the damaged object through a systematic conservation process, including documentation, cleaning, stabilisation, and restoration. Additionally, the project involves designing and fabricating a custom transportation container to ensure the sculpture’s safety during relocation to its original site and for long-term storage.; -
