การปรับเปลี่ยนแนวความคิดของจิตรกรรมฝาผนังในพระราชประสงค์ของรัชกาลที่ 5

Abstract

วัตถุประสงค์หลักของการศึกษาครั้งนี้เพื่อต้องการทราบการแนวทางเปลี่ยนแปลงในการเขียนจิตรกรรมฝาผนังสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 โดยคำถามสำคัญในงานวิจัยนี้คือจิตรกรรมฝาผนังเหล่านี้สะท้อนพระราชประสงค์ด้านต่าง ๆ ของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวอย่างไรบ้าง การศึกษาทำให้พบว่าปัจจัยสองประการที่ทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางด้านจิตรกรรมอย่างรวดเร็ว ได้แก่ การประดับตกแต่งภายในพระอารามแบบใหม่ ส่วนอีกประการคือ ความสนใจในกระแสสัจนิยมที่มีมากขึ้น ทั้งนี้สามารถแบ่งตามเนื้อหาเรื่องราวจิตรกรรมออกได้เป็น 3 หัวข้อ ได้แก่ 1. จิตรกรรมแบบประเพณี เรื่องชาดกและพุทธประวัติ 2. จิตรกรรมเชิงสัจนิยมในพระราชนิยมรัชกาลที่ 4 และ 3. จิตรกรรมเรื่องตำนานและประวัติศาสตร์ โดยเรื่องราวต่าง ๆ เหล่านี้ที่ได้รับการเลือกไปเขียนเป็นจิตรกรรมด้วยเหตุผลหลักเรื่องความสวยงาม และความสอดคล้องกับบริบทด้านสถาปัตยกรรม อันเป็นพระราชประสงค์หลักของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ภาพการรับรู้อย่างอดีตหรือความเชื่อโบราณของคนในสังคมได้ถูกท้าทายจากความคิดสมัยใหม่จากโลกตะวันตก ซึ่งสิ่งเหล่านี้ได้เป็นเงื่อนไขให้ชนชั้นนำที่จะปรับปรุงพัฒนาตนและชาติให้พร้อมและเหมาะสมสำหรับยุคสมัยใหม่ บรรยากาศแห่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้เองที่ส่งผลกระทบไปยังเรื่องอื่น ๆ รวมถึงงานจิตรกรรมที่เปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างยิ่งเมื่อกระแสสัจนิยมและมนุษยนิยมได้เข้ามา ในขณะเดียวกันศิลปกรรมก็มีแนวโน้มไปในการแสดงความงดงามมากกว่าการอุทิศถวายเพื่อศาสนาดังที่ผ่านมา

The purpose of this study is an attempt to explain the change and development in concept of depiction of murals painted in the reign of King Rama V. Through studying the specific group of mural paintings shown in the temples that King Chulalongkorn intended to build or reconstruct, this thesis also discusses his specific intention and attitude towards a selection of themes. There are two factors that could probably be fundamental caused of the change in mural painting : first, change in architectural and interior decoration style in a temple ; second, an interest in realism, According to the research, the murals depicted three themes : 1. The life of the Buddha and Jataka ; 2. The royal mural painting style of King Mongkut ; 3. History and legend. The selections of a story to be painted were varied during the time of rapid evolution-of-Thai-art era, since the latter half of the 19th century. It can be observed that the King’s preference focus on beautifulness and appropriateness of a mural. All stories painted had intentionally, and not all traditionally, chosen for specific reasons. The main reason is that each depicted storyline shares some logical contributions with a place ; it sensibly relates architectural context.
