สัตว์หิมพานต์ในศตวรรษที่ 21

Abstract

กระผมต้องการแสดงภาวการณ์อยู่ร่วมกันของความเป็นอุดมคติในโลกความเป็นจริงบน 2 แนวคิดดังนี้ แนวคิดแรกคือโลกอุดมคติตามหลักไตรภูมิ ที่เชื่อว่าชีวิตมนุษย์ไม่ได้จบลงที่ความตาย ยังมีโลกหลังความตายรออยู่จึงใฝ่ฝันถึงแดนสุขาวดี ส่วนโลกอุดมคติตามแนวคิดทางวิทยาศาสตร์ได้ก้าวพ้นความเป็นจริง เพราะความเป็นจริงไม่ตอบสนองความต้องการจึงสร้างความนึกคิดถึงโลกที่ยังมาไม่ถึง จากสองแนวคิดนี้ที่ดูต่างกัน แต่ทว่ากลับตั้งอยู่บนกรอบความคิดเดียวกันคือการใฝ่ฝันที่จะสร้างโลกที่ดี โลกที่งดงามและโลกที่ดีกว่า กล่าวคือมนุษย์เป็นผู้ที่ใฝ่ดี และความใฝ่ดีนั้นได้สร้างอะไรต่าง ๆ มากมาย แต่ใฝ่ดีที่มากเกินไปจึงทำให้ความหวังและเจตจำนงที่ดีหรือวิทยาการที่ดีได้พาไปสู่ความตกต่ำ ทำให้เรามองไม่เห็นความใฝ่ดีในทางที่ถูกจึงนำไปสู่การสร้างงานประติมากรรมรูปแบบเหนือจริง (Fantasy art) โดยการนำแนวคิดและรูปลักษณ์ของสัตว์หิมพานต์มาเป็นสื่อเพื่อสะท้อนและเปรียบเทียบสถานการณ์ที่คาดว่าจะเกิดขึ้น

The artist portrays the existence of idealism that coexist in the real world, these two ideas brings the concept of; idealism of the three worlds, the belief that human lives don’t end in death, but there is an afterworld for people to seek paradise. Secondly, the idealistic world relating to scientific thinking, which exceeds reality, because reality cannot give us what we need as human beings, therefore making us imagine a non-existing world. Even though these two ideas may be different but they lie in the same conceptual frame of wanting to have a good and better world. The concept stresses human’s desire to live in a utopian world and overcoming nature’s limitations, with this aspiration may leed to the destruction of both worlds. This sculpture is based on fantasy art, by using the idea and appearance of Himmaphan creatures to symbolize and compare situations that may happen from these events.
