จากการศึกษาลายผ้าสามารถจำแนกลายผ้าที่ปรากฏบนจิตรกรรมภาพเทพชุมนุมแห่งนี้ได้เป็นกลุ่มดังนี้ คือ ลายดอกลอย ลายประจำยามดอกลอย ลานกุดั่น ลายราชวัติ ลานก้านขด ลานก้านแย่ง ลายกรอบสี่เหลี่ยมย่อมุม ลายขอ ลายเมฆอย่างจีน และลายดอกไม้ร่วง จากการเปรียบเทียบลวดลายดังกล่าวพบว่า สามารถเทียบเคียงได้กับหลักฐานโบราณวัตถุประเภทผ้าโบราณทั้งที่พบในประเทศไทยและต่างประเทศซึ่งหลักฐานที่พบส่วนใหญ่เป็นผ้าที่มาจากประเทศอินเดียแทบทั้งสิ้น สอดคล้องกับช่วงเวลาของภาพจิตรกรรมคือสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลายซึ่งขณะนั้นการค้าแพรพรรณจากประเทศอินเดียมีบทบาทค่อนข้างมาก มีเพียงลายเดียวเท่านั้นที่เชื่อว่าคงมีที่มาจากจีน คือ ลายเมฆซึ่งสังเกตได้จากลักษณะของลายอย่างชัดเจน แม้ว่าจะไม่พบผ้าดังกล่าวในประเทศก็ตาม ดังนั้น ลายผ้านุ่งในจิตรกรรมแห่งนี้ ช่างคงมีแนวคิดมาจากลายผ้าจริงที่ได้พบเห็นและเป็นที่นิยมในสมัยนั้น
ในส่วนของการกำหนดอายุจากลายผ้านุ่งสามารถศึกษาได้ 3 ประเด็น คือ ประเด็นแรกลายผ้านุ่งในงานจิตรกรรมคงมีความสัมพันธ์กับลายผ้าโบราณสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลายอยู่แล้ว ประเด็นที่สอง ศึกษาเปรียบเทียบระเบียบของลายต่าง ๆ พบว่าหลักฐานที่พบไม่เก่าไปกว่าสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย และประเด็นสุดท้าย สามารถเปรียบเทียบเฉพาะลายเพื่อกำหนดอายุได้ เช่น ลายพุ่มข้าวบิณฑ์ในผังลายก้านแย่ง เป็นต้น ซึ่งลักษณะของลายใกล้ชิดกับหลักฐานสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลายเช่นกัน
การแบ่งฐานันดรของเทพจากลายผ้า จากการศึกษาเห็นว่าไม่สามารถใช้ลายผ้านุ่งเป็นเครื่องบ่งชี้ได้ เนื่องจากมีการใช้ลายซ้ำ ๆ กันอยู่มากในเทพแต่ละองค์และจำพวก อีกทั้งเมื่อศึกษาเครื่องทรงศิราภรณ์ประกอบ พบว่ามิได้สอดคล้องกันแต่อย่างใด จึงเชื่อว่า ไม่ว่าลายผ้านุ่งและเครื่องทรงต่าง ๆ อาจมิใช่ตัวกำหนดฐานันดรของเทพ หากแต่ความหลากหลายนั้นคงเป็นเทคนิคของช่างเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงภาพซ้ำ ๆ อันขาดสุนทรียภาพเป็นได้
From the study of patterns of lower garment in deities mural, it is found that there are 10 patterns of lower garment classified viz Dok Mai Loi pattern, Prajamyam Dok Mai Loi pattern, Four-petalled flower pattern, Ratchawat pattern, Kan Khot pattern, Kan Yang pattern, Rectangular pattern within recess, Hook pattern, Chinese cloud pattern and Dropped flower. From the comparison, there are some ancient lower garment found in Thailand and foreign lands which are significant evidences to support the study. Most of evidences are found in India and it conforms to the period of murals in the end of Ayutthaya period that a finery commerce between Thai and India is in a golden age. But there is only one pattern which comes from Chinese affection. It is a Chinese Cloud pattern which we can see obviously about the pattern style. Although it is not found in Thailand, the inspiration which the artists painted this pattern might be that because they created from their experiences or popularity in that time.
About the lower garment’s age specification, there are three points for consideration. Firstly, the pattern of lower garment in the mural of Wat Yai Suwannaram already correlates with the pattern of ancient lower garments in the end of Ayutthaya period. Secondly, the details of the evidences studied from the pattern are not elder than the evidences in the end of Ayutthaya period. And lastly, it can be studies on specific pattern for determining its age for instance, Poom Khoaw Bin pattern in pattern of Kan Yang which the details are similar to the details of the evidences found in the end of Ayutthaya period.
According to the division of God studied from the lower garment’s pattern, it is found that we cannot indicate it clearly because some patterns are used repeatedly many times in each God or groups of God. Moreover, when we studied about the God’s accessories, it is found that there is no relation between the pattern and the accessory. So it is believed that styles of patterns and accessories are not the determination of God division, but it might be created just for making arts to have more variety and esthetics.
